When will people lighten up?
On Mondays Play School, watchers were told a story about a little girl who goes to the fair with her two mummies. The Family Lobby group Endeavour Forum were quick to jump on the shows producers saying that "Parents would be quite unsuspecting because they think, 'Oh this is a children's program. It's not going to have anything to do with sex or violence'."
How does a lesbian couple taking their girl to a fair and having quality family time constitute sex and or violence? Other comments also go on to say that ABC are using taxpayer money to indoctrinate toddlers in radical politics. How is having an understanding and tolerance for all people radical?
I understand that with the Governments policy to put Australia more in line with the U.S's Gay and Lesbian laws the ABC's actions could be seen to be putting the other sides story out there in a bid to soften up the public but the show is meant for children. My understanding is that this demographic still doesn't have the right to vote.
Claire Henderson of the ABC defended their position by saying "The through-the-windows segments on Play School provide an opportunity to show children the wider world, They reflect the contemporary world in all its variety."
I'm sorry but unless you are going to lock yourself inside your house and turn off your T.V, radio and computer, you are going to have to understand that there is more to the world then just church and ignorance.
