The Terminal

'The Terminal' is the latest Spielberg/Hanks movie due in the U.S. on the 18th of June.

'The Terminal' tells the story of Viktor Navorski (Tom Hanks), a visitor to New York from Eastern Europe, whose homeland erupts in a fiery coup while he is in the air en route to America. Stranded at Kennedy Airport with a passport from nowhere, he is unauthorized to actually enter the United States and must improvise his days and nights in the terminal’s international transit lounge until the war at home is over. As the weeks and months stretch on, Viktor finds the compressed universe of the terminal to be a richly complex world of absurdity, generosity, ambition, amusement, status, serendipity and even romance with a beautiful flight attendant named Amelia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). But Viktor has long worn out his welcome with airport official Frank Dixon, who considers him a bureaucratic glitch, a problem he cannot control but wants desperately to erase.

After reading this Plot Summary from the official web site I wasn't very interested in seeing this film but after seeing the trailer I will be seeing this movie soon.

I vaguely remember watching a documentary about a guy in this sort of situation but the Spielberg gang claim that it is entirely a work of fiction.

Last word from the Dreamworks camp is that Spielberg is not letting this one out, even for reviewers, because he is making some final touches on it. I suppose in eleven days well will hear nothing but Spielberg, Spielberg, Spielberg.

"The Terminal' will be out in Australia on the 26th of August.

For so long we've been objected to European-accented actors given roles as Americans and expected to believe that they're as stars and stripes as baseball, apple pie and unauthorised military coups (see Arnie in 'True Lies' or Jean Claude Van Damme in 'Streetfighter').

So they finally have a role that's an Eastern European character and who do they cast? Tom Hanks.
