On the back of a recent story of a 14 year old boy who successfully divorced his mum, a man in his late forties has done the same.
Mr Ahearn of Perth was sick of being belittled and chastised by his mother when he heard that divorcing your parents was an option.
Mr Ahearn filed for the divorce against Mrs Ahearn, a 74 year old widow, in October last year. Citing irreconcilable differences he also claimed money from Mrs Ahearn for her actions in destroying Mr Ahearns career and marriage.
The judge finally awarded Mr Ahearn with $150,000 for suffering but would not award for the loss of career stating "Sometimes you just have to be a man and ignore her."
An elated Mr Ahearn later said "I hope this empowers more mummies boys to break the apron strings!"
Mrs Ahearn didn't loose everything in the settlement. Mrs Ahearn was awarded all of Mr Ahearn's football trophies and merit certificates from high school.
